HEATH – In July, Heath UMC welcomed their new pastor, Rev. Susan Britton. Prior to this appointment she served St. Paul/Salem near Circleville and Smith Chapel/Perryton in Licking Valley. She is also currently pastoring at Christ UMC in Newark.
Rev. Britton is excited to be appointed in the Newark-Heath area as this has been her home since childhood. Prior to serving in the church, she taught for Newark City Schools, worked as an education consultant for The Works, and was involved in the local homeschool community.
She is a graduate of Newark High School, Anderson University, University of Toledo, Mount Vernon Nazarene, and Ashland Theological Seminary. She has two almost-grown children. Charlie is a senior at NHS and Clara is a sophomore at Kent State University
One of Rev. Britton’s highest priorities is to create a safe way for those who are most vulnerable during the pandemic to be able to gather for worship. It was from this place of care that drive-in worship was created. When asked what she would do if it got cold before it was safe for everyone to gather inside, she smiled and replied, “I’ve done recess duty on a lot of cold days.” The worship service is also posted on the Heath UMC facebook page, and a mailed printed version is available upon request.
Pastor Susan and the congregation of HUMC invites the community to join them for worship each Sunday at 10:30 am. Until it is considered safe for worship to resume in the church sanctuary they will continue with the drive-in service in the church parking lot. The church is located at 1149 Hebron Road. For additional information call the church office at 740-522-5155.
